Some Paintings

Here are some new paintings I've made in my spare time. I drew them on my Surface Pro 2 Tablet with Sketchbook Pro. The first few were finished on my desktop PC with Photoshop.

Hope you like them.

Lowpoly Orc Character

In the last month I've learned a lots of stuff in 3d. Among other things I tried to model some cartoonesque lowpoly models with handpainted textures.

Texturing in a realistic way makes fun but painting a lowpoly character like the following one makes even more fun, I think. This handpainted stuff just takes me straight back to the old times when I played good old games like Warcraft III from Blizzard or something like this. :)

I hope you like him.

Kulturmanagement Network Machine

It's time to reanimate my Blog. I've done lots of stuff in the last time but I don't find a minute to post anything here.

So I can say the Blog is back from winter dormancy. :)

One year ago I did a job for the "Kulturmanagement Network" agency, a machine consisting of all their fields of activity. Now I revisited and extended the illustration to create a puzzle with it.

In the late sixties the german magazine Bravo invented the so-called "Bravo-Starschnitt" (star cut), a puzzle of a life-sized poster of a celebrity. Every new issue provided one cutout piece. The idea was to create something like this for their customers with the machine.

The second job was to cut my illustration into pieces and equip them with an interior life. These parts were printed on several postcards. Now the customers have the possibility to build the machine on their own. I think this is a funny and creative way to protrude out of the masses.

Skizzenfestival 2014

From September 15th to 21st, the SKIZZEN Festival took place in Weimar for the 1st time. A great chance to meet many exciting people with the same passion like mine - drawing. Originally founded in Stralsund by Sylvain Mazas in 2008 the festival has been developed to be a networking space for exchange and excercise within the Sketching Community in Germany - and beyond.

Just a couple of months ago our friend, childrens book illustrator Alexander von Knorre came along with the idea to carry forward the tradition and bring the festival to our hometown.
This was actually done by a loose, Weimar-based association of creatives and illustrators such as Olivia Vieweg, Rosa Linke, Nicola Siebert, Nils Volkmann, Sandra Bach and me.

A lot of non-profit free-time-work in planning and organizing for all of us but great fun after all. The Festival was a complete success and we are all happy now.

I loved the inspirational atmosphere during these days and whenever I found the time I have been drawing some stuff.

Here are a few chosen skribbles I've made at the time:

A portrait of Johannes 'Beetlebum' Kretzschmar. That was the only portrait drawing I've made on the festival.

Lots of sheeps and some goats spotted at the 'Ilmpark':

The vehicle of our nude model: An old Simson motorcycle with sidecar. It is a real oldtimer from 1959.

Some wired things happen ...drawn at a pub in the evening. I was quite drunk.

A try of a serious bottle label design realized with Window Color during Sandra's great Workshop. I wrote 'Cthulhu' intentionally incorrect because of a possible licensing. :D

ILLUMAT bombing

It has been a long time since my last ILLUMAT posting. We spend a lot of time on the road with our "illustration machine" in the last month to answer everyone's wishes. Among others we were at an open day in the central library in Hamburg, at a very funny wedding in Kiel and at a rotarian convention at the Schiesshaus here in Weimar.

The function principle:

1. People write their wishes on a little coupon on the outside of the ILLUMAT.
2. Next they have to insert this coupon together with a small donation in the "illustration machine".
3. Things must go quickly, now we have 5 to 10 minutes to realize the speed illustration.
4. The finished illustration comes out of the ILLUMAT with the coupon.

Sometimes we can listen to a 'yeah' or 'yippie' from the outside. :)
