Wild Shaman

The original pencil sketch is out of my 2012 sketchbook. I could not resist to give this guy a second chance. So I decided to postwork the drawing with Photoshop the usual way. I hope you like him.

Wake up!

"Wake up!" is a tale about a squirrel and a bear. Obviously the bear had expanded his winter sleep a little bit and does really don't like his buzzer. It's slightly an autobiographical story and a birthday present for my girlfriend. I hope you like them. :)

Making-of

At first, there was only an rough idea. So I've created this speedpainting to nail down the composition and the direction of lighting.

The next step was the design and 3D creation. Now I think I let speak the pictures of the process for themselves:

I've created the clock and some trees in the background, as a little gimmick at the end. So I put all togehter in one ZBrush project and rendered it. The compositing was done in Photoshop.

Several lightsettings where necessary to create the final compositon. These are the ones for the rim-light and for the fill-light:

Impulses

In 2012 I've created this poster for a image campaign of a city cooperation of Erfurt, Weimar and Jena. The task was to create a fancyfull and artistic image that represents the cities as a vibrant and organic place which causes a positive feeling of togetherness in the viewers. These cooperation is called in german 'Impulsregion' which is obviously a frankenword that consists of 'region' and 'impulse'. I had these idea of fruits which are growing on a giant translucent branch, so I made many sketches of this for the meetings to find what fits at best. But I tried also other concepts and designs:

"Thuringia" will also be called the green heart of germany, that was a very fancy interpretation of that. It is the most cheesiest picture I've ever made, I swear you! :)

These are the sketches I've made after these experiments:

My purpose was to create a very unique visual experience, so I created the different elements of the final piece with different techniques. The result is a mixed-media compositon of 3d and analog sculpting, painting and retouching at least.

Here is a little making-of of some of these elements:

The poster was placed everywhere in the local cities. Here is a little impression of Weimar.

I've already reported about this poster at these times but my blog already needed a making-of too.

Grumpy Granny

I've doodeling around with ZBrush and practise some techniques on this character. I really love to sculpt wrinkled faces like this. I think she must be a really cheerful person. :D

I call the final picture "Pure Morning" because this "Placebo" song stucked in my head and was going around and around while I've made it.

She hope you like her. :)

The final composition was done in Photoshop.

The following views of the sculpture are directly from ZBrush:

Hallucigenia

The following animal is my try on a reconstruction of Hallucigenia. This soft-bodied, worm like and extinct genus of animals caused many palaeontologists a proper headache. It was found as fossils in the Middle Cambrian-aged Burgess Shale formation of British Columbia, Canada. That means that it walked on it's tiny clawed tentacles 522 to 505 Million years ago. Scientists can't be sure today which end is which and where was the head. There are many different reconstructions on the web and I think it's never enough. For the head I was highly inspired by the tiny water-bear(Tardigrada) which has a similar body structure just a little more cuddly. :)

The creature had a lifesize of 5‭ ‬to‭ ‬30‭ ‬millimetres in the length.
In my scenery Hallucigenia climbs on a Venus' Flower Basket (Euplectella aspergillum).
